A Study of the Impact of Ketamine on Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction, Delirium, and Renal Dysfunction

During the early phases (phases 1 and 2), researchers assess safety, side effects, optimal dosages and risks/benefits. In the later phase (phase 3), researchers study whether the treatment works better than the current standard therapy. They also compare the safety of the new treatment with that of current treatments. Phase 3 trials include large numbers of people to make sure that the result is valid. There are also less common very early (phase 0) and later (phase 4) phases. Phase 0 trials are small trials that help researchers decide if a new agent should be tested in a phase 1 trial. Phase 4 trials look at long-term safety and effectiveness, after a new treatment has been approved and is on the market.

About this study

Ketamine is a commonly used anesthetic medication which is used for induction of anesthesia as well as as an analgesic. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties which may decrease post-operative complications following cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass that are thought to associated with inflammation. Some studies have shown that ketamine does decrease these complications when compared with anesthetics that are not commonly used in our cardiac anesthesiology practice. Propofol is another commonly used anesthetic medication which is used for induction of anesthesia. Ketamine has not been compared with propofol for potential to reduce post-operative complications associated with the inflammatory process. This study aims to see if ketamine will reduce the incidence of cognitive dysfunction, delirium, and renal dysfunction in comparison with propofol. In addition, the hemodynamic impact of ketamine compared with propofol will be investigated.

About this study

Capsular REpair randomiSed controlled Trial (CREST) is a multi-center, randomized controlled trial with a sample size of 240 patients (120 patients in each group). The primary outcome measure is functional outcome as measured by the change in Hip Outcome Score at 6 months with secondary outcomes being hip range of motion, i-HOT 12, overall satisfaction, and VAS. Patients are stratified based on gender. Patients, outcome assessors, and data analysts are blinded to surgical allocation. Using an intention-to-treat approach, outcome analyses will be performed using an analysis of covariance and descriptive statistics.

About this study

The overall goal of this study is to develop regenerative cell therapy for use in patients with osteoarthritis (OA). The primary objective of this proposal is to conduct a pilot study that assesses the safety and feasibility of using concentrated bone marrow aspirate containing MSC to treat patients with painful knee OA.

About this study

The purpose of the study is to evaluate progression free survival, using independent radiologic review, of ASP8273 compared to erlotinib or gefitinib in patients with locally advanced, metastatic or unresectable stage IIIB/IV adenocarcinoma non-small cell lung cancer that has epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) activating mutations.

This study will also assess overall survival, overall response rate, progression free survival assessed by the investigator, disease control rate, duration of response, safety of ASP8273, quality of life, and patient-reported outcome parameters.

The purpose of the current study is, 1) Determine the effectiveness of injury prevention programs for prevention of hamstring muscle strains, 2) Identify how these programs impact athletes' flexibility, muscle stiffness, strength, and power, and 3) Determine the ability of a state-of-the-art imaging technology, shear wave elastography to predict future hamstring muscle strain injury.
