Glacios 2 electron microscope in the Structural Biology Core Self-service instrumentation

The Structural Biology Core offers an array of instruments that will soon be part of a reservation system.

Instrument access

The Structural Biology Core offers self-service instrumentation that researchers can reserve for projects. Available instruments include:

  • Thermo Fisher Scientific 200-kilovolt Glacios 2 cryogenic transmission electron microscope. This microscope is equipped with a Selectris X imaging filter and Falcon 4i direct electron detector. It is used for single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryoEM), cryo-electron tomography (cryoET) and microcrystal electron diffraction (microED).
  • Thermo Fisher Scientific Vitrobot Mark IV and Vitrobot Mark V. These devices are used for cryoEM grid freezing in a dedicated low-humidity room.
  • Leica EM ACE600 sputter coater. This instrument prepares ultrathin carbon-coated grids for cryoEM.
  • PELCO easiGlow glow discharging system. This instrument is used for cleaning and hydrophilization of carbon-coated grids.
  • Rigaku XtaLAB Synergy-R diffractometer for X-ray crystallography. This system includes a PhotonJet-R microfocus rotating anode X-ray source, a curved HyPix-Arc 150-degree detector and a Cobra cooling system from Oxford Cryosystems Ltd.
  • Bruker 700 MHz (16.44 tesla) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer. This instrument is equipped with a triple-resonance cryoprobe.

A reservation system is coming soon.
