An automated electron microscopy tissue processor holding multiple capped sample vials on a rotating platform. Specimen preparation and sectioning: Transmission electron microscopy

Electron Microscopy Core staff prepare fixed specimens to view using transmission electron microscopy. Services include processing, resin embedding, and resin block sectioning and staining.

  • Processing.
  • Resin embedding.
  • Resin block sectioning and staining.

For optimal results, cut fresh tissue into 1- to 2-mm3 pieces and place it into fixative immediately after dissection. We recommend a buffered glutaraldehyde (2.5% to 3%). Trump's fixative — a buffered mix of formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde — also can be used. Trump's fixative is available for use from the Electron Microscopy Core.

For nontissue samples, such as cell cultures, viruses and purified organelle preps, contact the core. You also can contact the core for information on how to submit your sample or to schedule an appointment.
