About this study

The purpose of this study is to collect preliminary data on the prevalence and characteristics of adipose derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs) obtained from the fat pad surrounding the pericardium and to compare ADMSCs' prevalence and characteristics with ADMSCs obtained from other parts of the body which is described historically in the literature.

During the early phases (phases 1 and 2), researchers assess safety, side effects, optimal dosages and risks/benefits. In the later phase (phase 3), researchers study whether the treatment works better than the current standard therapy. They also compare the safety of the new treatment with that of current treatments. Phase 3 trials include large numbers of people to make sure that the result is valid. There are also less common very early (phase 0) and later (phase 4) phases. Phase 0 trials are small trials that help researchers decide if a new agent should be tested in a phase 1 trial. Phase 4 trials look at long-term safety and effectiveness, after a new treatment has been approved and is on the market.

About this study

This randomized phase II trial is for medically inoperable early stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. It is designed to compare the number of patients who are disease free and alive at 2 years between Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) and surgical intervention arms. SBRT is less invasive and felt to be equally effective to surgery for early stage NSCLC. Surgery is currently the standard of care for these patients. The hypothesis of this study is that SBRT is at least as good as surgery for disease free survival at 2 years.

About this study

This is a global, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group study using avatrombopag to treat adults with thrombocytopenia associated with liver disease. The study will evaluate avatrombopag in the treatment of thrombocytopenia associated with liver disease prior to an elective procedure to reduce the need for platelet transfusions or any rescue procedure for bleeding due to procedural and post-procedural bleeding complications. Participants will be enrolled into 2 cohorts according to mean baseline platelet count and, within each baseline platelet count cohort will be further stratified by risk of bleeding associated with the elective procedure (low, moderate, or high) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) status (Yes or No).

About this study

As CTS is the most commonly diagnosed compression neuropathy of the upper extremity, assessment of severity and treatment response is important crucial to determine the clinical outcomes. Currently, physical examination and overall functional status as well as pre-op electrodiagnostic (EDX) testing are important in determining patient outcome scores and assessing the treatment response. The physical properties of MN and surrounding tissue may be good biomarkers for this evaluation.

SWE is a qualitative and quantitative method for measuring tissue stiffness. There are limited studies on using SWE for diagnosis of CTS , but other aspects of CTS, including the assessment of severity and treatment response have not been studied. Our central hypothesis is that SWE provides quantitative information about the physical properties of the MN and surrounding tissue that help to identify carpal tunnel syndrome, its severity and response to treatment. If SWE successfully demonstrates efficacy in diagnosing, patient outcome score, and treatment response assessment, it would have a significant clinical impact on patients with CTS, as well as offering an additional confirmatory diagnostic test for true recurrent carpal tunnel syndrome.

About this study

Muscle tension dysphagia is a novel diagnostic taxonomy describing a subset of patient population with reported dysphagia who exhibit normal oropharyngeal and esophageal swallowing function as evidenced by videofluoroscopic swallow study. These patients also demonstrate abnormal supraglottic muscle tension during laryngoscopy as well as signs of laryngeal hypersensitivity and laryngopharyngeal reflux. Treatment of these patients with Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) therapy is a common practice however voice therapy invention targeting the unloading of the supraglottic muscle tension has been shown to be highly effective in symptom resolution per the investigators' clinical experience. The study is designed to answer efficacy of treatment being offered to patients with muscle tension dysphagia.

The purpose of this study is to develop the use of doubly labeled water procedures for measuring total energy expenditure, as well as run comparison testing with doubly labeled water against physiologic monitoring devices already in place. Doubly labeled water is water with extra electrons that can be traced in the urine and or saliva.

About this study

CSM (Cervical spondylotic myelopathy) is the most common cause of spinal cord injury worldwide. While there is evidence from the recently completed SpineNet prospective study that surgical decompression is an effective treatment for CSM, it is clear that many patients have remaining neurological impairment. While surgery is relatively safe, approximately 3% of patients maintain a neurological problem. Given this background and data from preclinical models of non-traumatic and traumatic spinal cord injury, there is strong evidence to consider the potential benefit of adding a neuroprotective drug which aids in the treatment of patients with CSM whom are undergoing surgical decompression. Riluzole is FDA-approved for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which has some similar clinical features to CSM. Riluzole is currently under investigation for traumatic spinal cord injury. Given this background, there is a strong basis to consider studying the potential neurological benefits of Riluzole as a treatment to surgical decompression in patients with CSM.
