Quality and Practice Improvement Research

Research efforts in the Department of Family Medicine-Research at Mayo Clinic include enhancing the delivery of health care through quality improvement measures. These efforts ultimately boost patient care and patient satisfaction.

Quality improvement research initiatives for family and community medicine include:

  • Access and triage
  • Cervical cancer screening
  • Enhancing patient involvement
  • Hospital readmissions
  • Inbox usage
  • Pap tests, including reducing both overutilization and underutilization and improving compliance with screening guidelines
  • Prenatal care

Faculty members in the Department of Family Medicine-Research are also engaged in practice improvement research projects related to new models of care for cervical cancer screening, online care and virtual consultation, and care delivery by midlevel providers and nurse care managers.
