The researchers hypothesize that patients and their families will be comfortable watching standardized CPR informational videos and that they would recommend that others watch the videos. Furthermore, the researchers hypothesize that patients and their families will find the videos helpful in their own end-of-life planning.

The overall objective of this study is to determine whether non-medically trained caregivers can be educated to utilize home monitoring devices paired with our mobile application to collect and store patient-specific information regarding weight, pulse, and oxygen saturation levels for congenital heart disease patients.

About this study

The first purpose is to determine the influence of pedal rate during constant-load submaximal locomotor exercise on ventilation, gas exchange, blood pressure, and cardiac hemodynamic responses during post-exercise activation of group III and IV locomotor muscle afferents using a novel application and integration of two separate but related scientific questions to better understand peripheral mechanisms of exercise tolerance in humans. The second purpose is to compare ventilation, gas exchange, blood pressure, and cardiac hemodynamic responses across the adult healthy aging spectrum.

About this study

The goal of this study is to better understand why anesthesia providers utilize albumin within the operative setting, to the area of clinical specialty, years of service, and position within the anesthesia department. With the knowledge obtained, department wide education will be developed and offered to all anesthesia providers imparting appropriate uses of albumin, based on the current research.

During the early phases (phases 1 and 2), researchers assess safety, side effects, optimal dosages and risks/benefits. In the later phase (phase 3), researchers study whether the treatment works better than the current standard therapy. They also compare the safety of the new treatment with that of current treatments. Phase 3 trials include large numbers of people to make sure that the result is valid. There are also less common very early (phase 0) and later (phase 4) phases. Phase 0 trials are small trials that help researchers decide if a new agent should be tested in a phase 1 trial. Phase 4 trials look at long-term safety and effectiveness, after a new treatment has been approved and is on the market.

About this study

This is a study in patients who recently had a brain attack (stroke) and in whom no clear cause of the stroke could be identified. These strokes are likely due to a blood clot and therefore, can be called embolic stroke of undetermined source. The abbreviation is ESUS. The study will compare 2 blood thinners. Patients will be randomly assigned to either Rivaroxaban 15 mg or Aspirin 100 mg and the study is intended to show, if patients given rivaroxaban have fewer blood clots in the brain (stroke) or in other blood vessels.

About this study

STUDY OBJECTIVES Primary objective(s) To evaluate the effect of macitentan 10 mg on pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) as compared to placebo in subjects with pulmonary hypertension (PH) after left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation.

Secondary objectives To evaluate the effect of macitentan 10 mg as compared to placebo on cardio-pulmonary hemodynamics and disease severity in subjects with PH after LVAD implantation.

To evaluate the safety and tolerability of macitentan 10 mg in subjects with PH after LVAD implantation.

Exploratory objectives To explore the potential effect of macitentan 10 mg as compared to placebo on right ventricular function in subjects with PH after LVAD implantation.

To explore the potential effect of macitentan 10 mg as compared to placebo on selected clinical events in subjects with PH after LVAD implantation.

To explore the potential effect of macitentan 10 mg as compared to placebo on renal function as measured by glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in subjects with PH after LVAD implantation.

The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of brincidofovir (BCV) to valganciclovir (vGCV) for the prevention of CMV disease in kidney transplant recipients who are CMV seropositive pretransplant and received antilymphocyte induction therapy.
