  • Rizatriptan for Episodic Dizziness in Vestibular Migraine Rochester, MN

The purpose of this study is to look at the natural history of VM and learn more about common symptoms. Investigators also want to learn the effects, both positive and negative, of the commonly used migraine drug, rizatriptan, when it is used for spells of dizziness in people with VM.

Patients may be eligible to participate if:

    • Patients are between the ages of 18 & 65
    • Patients have a history of vestibular migraine
    • Patients are able to maintain a vestibular symptom diary

The study includes 3 visits with compensation. All participants must ...

  • The Development of a Dizziness Symptom Inventory (DSI) Rochester, MN

The purpose of this investigation will be to determine the level of agreement between the "predicted" dizziness diagnosis from the DSI, compared to the "actual" diagnosis from the "gold-standard" ear (dizziness) specialist.

  • Behavioral Assessment of Visual Motion Sensitivity in Individuals with Chronic Dizziness Rochester, MN

The purpose of this study is to describe the relationship between clinical tests describing vestibular function, and behavioral tests measuring responses to dynamic visual environments.

  • A Study to Determine if the Video Head Impulse Test has Sufficient Sensitivity and Specificity for Adding to Routine Clinical Practice Rochester, MN

The present study is designed to examine the sensitivity and specificity of the video head impulse test.  The testing performed for this study is routinely ordered by referring physicians and widely used in clinical practice. It is a purpose of this study to determine whether the video head impulse test has sufficient sensitivity and specificity to warrant adding this device to routine clinical practice.

  • Pilot Project on External Vestibular Prosthesis in Chronic Subjective Dizziness Rochester, MN

This pilot study is focused on what assistance an external prosthetic device, the BalanceBelt™ can provide in the:

    1. assessment and
    2. treatment for patients with Chronic Subjective Dizziness (CSD).

The BalanceBelt has sensitive detectors for movement in the anterior/posterior and medial/lateral planes and provides the person wearing the device vibro-tactile feedback as to the persons orientation with respect to gravity. The device is a full self contained device that is comfortably worn around the waist over a light weight shirt. The device is non-FDA approved and is in its final stages of beta testing. Patients ...

  • A Study of Factors That Predispose, Promote, and Perpetuate Post-Traumatic Dizziness Rochester, MN

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether recent, groundbreaking discoveries about key pathophysiologic processes that drive chronic dizziness in patients without traumatic brain injury (TBI9,10) are applicable to patients with post-mTBI vestibular disability. We expect the results of this project to have practical clinical and research applications, providing novel data for two future steps:
