About this study

The purpose of this study is to identify individuals within the Mayo Health System or community settings with significant liver disease and to potentially include such persons in research projects via a pre-screening protocol.  

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Male and Female adults age ≥18 years and ≤80 years.
  • Able to give informed consent
  • Considered to be at risk for SLD or Cirrhosis by meeting one of the below criteria:
    • Obese as defined by:
      • BMI >30 (actual or self-reported height and weight)
      • Self-reported body type of “apple”
    • Has at least three of the following:
      • polycystic ovarian syndrome
      • hypertension
      • dyslipidemia
      • diabetes
      • Alcohol use Female <1 more drinks/day on average; male <2 drinks/day
      • Personal or family history of liver disease and/or liver cancer
      • FIB-4 score ≥ 2.67 (calculated from patient’s age, AST, ALT, and platelet count)
      • AST ≥ 30

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Comorbidities that limit life expectancy to less than two years.
