Research projects

Our research approaches encompass local and systemic impacts of aging, injury, regeneration, immune dysregulation and metabolic dysfunction in multiple diseases and conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system.

We use multidisciplinary state-of-the art spatial, single-cell and metabolomic omics approaches and bioinformatics to discover evidence-based mechanisms that drive disease and healing.

Ongoing research projects in the Gingery lab include:

  • Defining the role of cellular senescence in carpal tunnel syndrome and evaluating approaches to therapeutically target the condition.
  • Clarifying the roles of aging and immune dysfunction in the pathogenesis of Dupuytren contracture.
  • Exploring early detection of immune cell changes in rheumatoid arthritis with the goal of identifying people at risk decades before joint damage occurs.
  • Defining the mechanisms underlying Achilles tendinopathy to inform evidence-based treatment and prevention strategies.
  • Investigating the impact of chronic pancreatitis on skeletal health.
  • Determining the role and mechanisms by which skeletal stem cells contribute to soft tissue repair.

Funding

The Musculoskeletal Biology and Immunology Laboratory is supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Robert and Arlene Kogod Center on Aging.

Collaborators

The Gingery lab collaborates with numerous other researchers, both at Mayo Clinic and other institutions around the United States.
