The Clinical Informatics in Intensive Care laboratory and its investigators are 2012 recipients of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Health Care Innovation Award, Patient Centered Cloud-based Electronic System: Ambient Warning and Response Evaluation (ProCCESs AWARE).
The funding award ($16 million) will be used in the next three years in four diverse hospital systems to develop and use new health information technologies to improve quality of care, reduce medical errors and effectively manage ICU patient care. The collaborations are intended to refine and improve the Ambient Warning and Response Evaluation (AWARE) emergency medical record (EMR) system. AWARE is conceived as a next-generation EMR focused on reducing information overload, improving efficiency and eliminating medical errors in the ICU. During the CMS Award, AWARE will be implemented in a cloud-based model in collaboration with Philips Research North America.
