Overview of the approach for production of human hepatocytes in FAH-deficient pigs
Overview of the approach for production of human hepatocytes in FAH-deficient pigs. Step one involves in utero cell transplantation of donor cells into fetal FAH-deficient pigs. Step two involves tapering off the protective nitisinone drug with expansion of donor cells. Step three involves digestion of the humanized liver and enrichment of expanded human cells. The potential clinical applications of human hepatocytes include a humanized bioartificial liver, an issue engineered human liver and human hepatocyte transplantation.
