Mayo Clinic Cancer Center is again ranked in the top 50 best cancer hospitals in U.S. News & World Report. For 2013-2014, our Rochester, Minn., location ranked No. 3 in the nation, up from No. 4 a year ago. Our locations in Phoenix, Ariz., ranked No. 33, and Jacksonville, Fla., ranked No. 34.

The annual rankings, now in their 24th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.

The magazine evaluates hospitals in 16 adult specialties. In most specialties, it ranks the nation's top 50 hospitals and recognizes other high-performing hospitals that provide care at nearly the level of their nationally ranked peers. The rankings are based on such factors as reputation, mortality index, patient safety, nurse staffing, magnet status, patient services and technology.

While the U.S. News & World Report rankings are an important measure that patients use to help select where they go for care, they are by no means the only measure of our performance. Patients who go to any Mayo Clinic Cancer Center location receive the most comprehensive and advanced cancer care available anywhere.

Mayo Clinic is the only health care organization that consistently ranks among the top providers in the country regardless of which quality measurement models are used. Other models include the University HealthSystem Consortium, Leapfrog, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Solucient and Healthgrades.

This consistently excellent performance at the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center would not be possible without our commitment to delivering high-value care for patients. And continuously improving that care would not be possible without our commitment to research.
