Dr. Kenneth Wang Director of the Advanced Endoscopy Group and Esophageal Neoplasia Clinic, and a consultant in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Dr. Wang has built his research career on aspects of Barrett's esophagus and early esophageal carcinomas. Examples of external recognition of this has been based upon his selection by the National Cancer Institute to be a full member of the Progress Review Group in upper GI carcinomas. He has also served with the Early Detection Research Network of the National Cancer Institute. Most recently, he has been appointed to the National Commission on Digestive Diseases in the Gastrointestinal Neoplasia section. He has served on numerous NIH panels that summarize the state-of-the art in Barrett's esophagus and novel imaging techniques of the gastrointestinal tract. A distinct honor for a medical physician has been his participation for the last eight years on the National Science Foundation Biophotonics Review Panel and also his inclusion on the National Science Foundation career awards in bioengineering. Dr. Wang is the Chair of the Data Safety Monitoring Board for the University of Washington's Barrett's Esophagus Program, which is one of the largest and oldest clinical trials in Barrett’s esophagus in the country. He has also served on the Scientific Advisory Board of a program project grant at Massachusetts Institute of Technology from the George Harrison Spectroscopy Laboratory. Dr Wang is currently the principal investigator on two investigator initiated National Institutes of Health R01 grants as well as Site Principal Investigator for a multicenter InterSPORE Barretts Esophagus program. He also has had grants and contracts from multiple industry sponsors including TAP, Astra-Zeneca, Axcan Pharma, Ethicon Endosurgery, InScope, and BarRx. He is Editor in Chief of the journal Diseases of the Esophagus and Associate Editor for the journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He serves on the Governing Boards of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, International Photodynamic Therapy Association, and The International Society for the Diseases of the Esophagus.
