SUMMARY
The research team of Vanessa L. Kronzer, M.D., aims to identify scientific breakthroughs in the etiology and treatment of autoimmune rheumatic diseases to promote health and reduce illness and disability. This team includes geneticists, bioinformaticists, biostatisticians and study coordinators. Many trainees also are on the team, including fellows, residents and medical students.
Dr. Kronzer's work spans the clinical and translational research spectrum from preclinical insights to implications for population health.
Focus areas
- Genetics of inflammatory arthritis. Dr. Kronzer's team identifies novel genetic variants and gene-environment interactions for inflammatory arthritis to improve diagnosis and treatment.
- Respiratory and microbiome drivers of inflammatory arthritis. Dr. Kronzer's team discovers novel respiratory tract drivers for inflammatory arthritis, such as nasal microbiome signatures, respiratory diseases and environmental toxins.
- Epidemiology of autoimmune disease. Dr. Kronzer works with collaborators and datasets worldwide to determine novel epidemiologic associations for autoimmune diseases that inform their diagnosis and management.
Significance to patient care
Dr. Kronzer works to find out what causes autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. She seeks new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat these diseases. Dr. Kronzer also aims to help people affected by these diseases live longer, healthier lives.
