SUMMARY
Venkatesh R. Bellamkonda, M.D., studies health care quality from multiple points of view. His research includes finding ways to improve effectiveness, efficiency, accessibility, equity and value of care delivered, with a particular focus on emergency medicine topics. Dr. Bellamkonda has researched the role that point-of-care ultrasound and education plays in increasing emergency medicine quality.
Focus areas
- Health care quality. Utilizing improvement techniques such as Lean Six Sigma and changing management strategies to pursue improved outcomes for patients and families, as well as optimizing the experience of giving and receiving care.
- Education. Investigating ways to improve the method of educating health care professionals, including exploring asynchronous learning strategies, learning administration, curriculum design and other aspects.
- Point-of-care ultrasound. Using point-of-care ultrasound to advance care delivery to patients in the emergency department. Dr. Bellamkonda is investigating ways to identify where standardized ultrasound use improves overall care outcomes.
- Innovation. Working to see if novel technologies including 3D video, smart speakers and artificial intelligence can improve the overall quality of health care.
Significance to patient care
Dr. Bellamkonda believes that by keeping an open mind and systematically testing novel systems, he will find ways to increase effectiveness of care for patients and their families. The ultimate goal of his research is to move toward world-class, accessible and affordable care for everyone.
