A note from our research sponsors in the division
The Division of Spine Surgery provides comprehensive, patient-centered care for people with conditions affecting the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. Our multidisciplinary team combines clinical expertise, innovative research and education to improve surgical outcomes and advance the treatment of complex spinal disorders.
Our division's clinical and research interests include:
- Degenerative cervical and lumbar spine conditions.
- Adult spinal deformity and complex reconstruction.
- Minimally invasive surgery, navigation and robotics.
- Spine trauma, tumors and infections.
- Patient outcomes, complications and quality of care.
The Gap Year Program offers medical students an opportunity to participate in retrospective, prospective and biomechanical research. Fellows contribute to project development, literature review, data collection and analysis, abstract submission, scientific presentations, and manuscript preparation.
Fellows work closely with spine surgeons, residents, research staff and collaborators across Mayo Clinic. They also participate in educational conferences and clinical experiences that expand their understanding of spine care. Through individualized mentorship, fellows strengthen their research skills, develop meaningful faculty relationships and prepare for a successful Orthopedic Surgery Match.
The Orthopedic Surgery Spine Division accepts one student through the Gap Year Program.
