Overview
Healthcare delivery research is a multidisciplinary field of investigation that solves complex issues in healthcare. This field is instrumental in creating a learning health system. Evidence-based solutions address the costs, accessibility and quality of care, as well as the experience of patients and healthcare staff and patient outcomes. These solutions also address the advancement of health equity across communities.
Mayo Clinic's Division of Health Care Delivery Research is a multidisciplinary group of scientists and postdoctoral trainees who conduct collaborative health services research to ensure the delivery of high-quality, clinically appropriate and cost-effective healthcare to all segments of the population that Mayo Clinic serves. Established in 1992 as the Division of Health Care Policy and Research and renamed in 2020, the Division of Health Care Delivery Research continues a long legacy of taking a scientific approach to healthcare delivery.
The division's scientists are located within the Mayo Clinic Robert D. and Patricia E. Kern Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery. They provide collaborative leadership across Mayo's medical practice and seek to transform patient care. Further, through publications, presentations and proactive engagement in regional, national and international forums, their expertise guides and influences the practice of medicine and healthcare delivery nationally and internationally.
The division's doctoral-level faculty members provide expertise across multiple disciplines, including communications, comparative effectiveness, computer science, data science, economics, epidemiology, implementation science, mechanical engineering, psychology, statistics and systems theory. They lead teams across Mayo Clinic seeking to transform the healthcare experience through several research activities.
Division faculty benefit from the administrative support of a manager and several administrative assistants. In addition, they receive dedicated support from analysts, project managers, clinical research coordinators and others with the specialized expertise necessary for each investigation. Clinician colleagues with joint appointments augment Mayo Clinic's Health Care Delivery Research team. They provide clinical knowledge and expertise in relevant areas of medicine for collaborative research projects.
