Hard tissue and metal histology
Plastic embedding and sectioning with or without metal
Using the EXAKT system, the Biomechanics Core processes, embeds, sections and stains small and large tissue samples that contain metal or other hardened elements. These samples include:
- Stained sections from specimens containing vascular stents.
- Tantalum.
- Titanium alloys.
- Cobalt-chrome alloys.
- Stainless steel.
The core's services also include undecalcified bone histology:
- Tissue processing.
- Embedding in plastic.
- Sectioning and staining, such as hematoxylin and eosin staining, Gomori's and Goldner's trichrome, MacNeal's Tetrachrome, toluidine blue, von Kossa, Giemsa, tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase, and alkaline phosphatase.
The core also can process images of these sections using its OsteoMeasure automated digital image analysis system.
