About this study

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether a newly introduced polyethylene (highly cross-linked polyethylene, vitamin E-containing polyethylene in vivo) can suppress wear debris production more than conventional polyethylene. If the newly introduced polyethylene can reduce wear debris production, it is expected to reduce failure of artificial joints in the future. However, if newly introduced polyethylene is actually increasing wear debris production, it could be an early alarm bell for surgeons around the world. In other words, the international and social impact of this research is extremely large.

About this study

The purpose of this stduy is to develop early cancer detection markers in these high risk genetically predisposed populations we require three things:
a) Clinical phenotype of patients with hereditary cancer pedispositon syndromes
b) Longitudinal biospecimen collection that can be utilzied for ct-DNA analysis
c) Next generation sequencing including nucleir acid sequencing of cell free DNA and RNA, genomic DNA, messenger RNA and fragmentomics analysis.

About this study

Patients awaiting heart transplantation on temporary mechanical support often experience pain and anxiety, and their pre-transplant hospital course is often prolonged. We intend to investigate whether an immersive Virtual Reality headset can improve patients pain and anxiety while awaiting cardiac transplantation using specific patient surveys to assess pain, anxiety, and resilience.

About this study

The purpose of this qualitative interview study is to explore adult participants’ experiences of living with Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD). This includes identifying signs, symptoms, and impacts of the disease that are relevant and most bothersome to these patients through concept elicitation (CE) interviews. This study also aims to assess the appropriateness of instruments for measuring symptom burden and impact in people with ADPKD through cognitive debriefing (CD) interviews. The instruments that will be debriefed in this study are planned to be included in a Phase 3 trial investigating the benefits of a novel once-monthly subcutaneous treatment to slow kidney function decline in adults at risk of rapidly progressing ADPKD.

About this study

The objective of the registry is to evaluate the continued safety and performance of Arthrex foot and ankle products, including the ProStop® implant for hyperpronated foot; Bio-Compression Screw for reconstruction surgeries of the foot; TRIM-IT Drill Pin® system and/or TRIM-IT Spin Pin™ system for fixation of fractures and fusion (bunionectomy osteotomies) of the foot/ankle; Headless Compression Screws and Compression FT Screws for fixation of small bone fragments of the foot/ankle; DynaNite® nitinol staple for midfoot and hindfoot arthrodeses or osteotomies, first metatarsophalangeal arthrodesis, and mono or bi-cortical osteotomies in the forefoot; BioComposite SutureTak® anchor for medial ankle stabilization; Beveled FT Screws for hallux valgus repair; KreuLock™ screws for ankle fractures; ArthroFLEX® dermal allograft for hallux rigidus arthroplasty; and DualCompression Hindfoot Nail for tibiotalocalcaneal arthrodesis.

The purpose of this study is to attainment score will also be administered to determine what new functional activities the patient is able to perform. Patients will be asked ‘what were three goals you before surgery’ and then if surgery was able to help patient’s achieve these goals. Patients and their guardians will be asked about their satisfaction related to surgery and if they would choose to have the procedure again.

About this study

There is agreement that several factors determine a person’s risk for diabetic retinopathy, namely hyperglycemia, diabetes duration, and systemic hypertension. There is also increasing evidence
supporting a genetic component in DR susceptibility given the heterogeneity of DR in patients with equally poor glycemic control. Several studies, including the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial, have provided evidence for a familial tendency toward DR development, independent of associated risk factors.7 107 Therefore, studies on the genetic risk factors related to diabetic retinopathy are of public health importance.

The DRCR.net is pursuing this genetics initiative to collect, store, analyze, and distribute genetic material with accompanying phenotypic information. The initiative will provide a unique opportunity to combine data from multiple populations, including the Type 1 and Type 2 diabetic populations in the US, to define genetic factors that confer risk for development and progression of diabetic retinopathy, and response to therapeutic intervention.

About this study

The purpose of this study is to learn about the natural progression of DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy) caused by BAG3 gene mutations. DCM is a condition as the heart muscle is weakened and the heart becomes enlarged. This makes it hard for the heart to pump enough blood for the body.

The study is seeking up to about 35 participants who have:

* BAG3 mutation (change in the gene) that causes or is likely to cause dilated cardiomyopathy
* NYHA (New York Heart Association) Class I-IV at screening (Stage B-D)
* Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction less than or equal to 50% (meaning reduced heart function)

All participants in this study will receive their usual treatment. The investigators will observe the natural progression of people who have BAG3 DCM. This will help the investigators better understand the disease and aid in future research.

Participants will take part in this study for one year. During this time, participants will visit the site at least 4 times (about every 3 months). Participants will undergo study procedures and give information about their health. These procedures will include a physical exam, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, echocardiography, ECG monitoring, activity monitoring, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, and blood tests. Participants will answer questions about health and quality of life. The study team will also call participants about 1 time over the phone.
