A Community Engagement Approach To Increasing Breast Cancer Screening And Clinical Trial Participation In Low Income And Rural Populations (‘WE-CARE’)

The purpose of this project is to address disparities in breast cancer screening, outcomes and clinical research participation among rural and low-income women. By fostering engagement early and enhancing research readiness prior to disease onset, the project seeks to empower women as informed health advocates. By empowering women as informed health advocates and strengthening community partnerships, the program aims to reduce structural barriers and improve long‑term breast cancer outcomes in underserved populations.

Enhancing Brain And Mental Health Through Breathing Practice: Clinical Applications In Rural Adolescents With Psychiatric Symptoms (Breathing Study ?Adolescent)

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of a structured breathing intervention in rural adolescents (n = 40) diagnosed with anxiety and depression, recruited from outpatient pediatric and child/adolescent psychiatry clinics. Primary outcomes will include measures of acceptability (e.g., participant/caregiver satisfaction) and adherence (e.g., completion of breathing practices and session attendance) and retention over the study period.
Specific Aim 2: To explore the short-term effects of structured breathing practice on cerebral circulation and emotional well-being. Secondary outcomes will include changes in cerebral hemodynamics (e.g., via fNIRS and physiological metrics) and changed in self-reported emotional health, including anxiety and depression.

Understanding Social Determinants of Health and Patients’ Perspectives on Barriers to Utilizing Telehealth During COVID-19 Pandemic (NSITE)

The primary objective of Aim 1 of this study are to identify personal and social determinant of health-related key factors that present as a barriers to use of non-emergent telehealth care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aim 1 will use a qualitative study design to understand the experiences of patients along with social determinants of health (SDOH). The results of the qualitative work will be used by the research team to design the survey for administration in Aim 2.
The primary objectgive of Aim 2 of this study is to assess personal and social determinants of health that are associated with patient’s decision to prefer face-to-face visits compared with telehealth appointments for non-emergent care.
