About this study

The authors hypothesize that asymptomatic structural changes found at the lateral ankle via sonographic examination will be associated with increased risk of future ankle injury.

 

Aims, purpose, and/or objectives (primary, secondary, and exploratory):

Primary aim: Examine the likelihood of experiencing a time-loss lateral ankle injury in athletes with baseline pre-season ultrasound abnormalities compared to those without abnormalities

 

Secondary aim: Identify, describe, and report prevalence of pre-season asymptomatic sonographic abnormalities in the structures of the lateral ankle

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

UNW athletes on the roster for Men’s Basketball, Men’s Soccer, Men’s Football, Women’s Basketball, Women’s Soccer and Women’s Volleyball ages 18-26 years old

 

Exclusion Criteria: 

Any person who is not on the UNW roster for Men’s Basketball, Men’s Soccer, Men’s Football, Women’s Basketball, Women’s Soccer and Women’s Volleyball
