A Study Of Return To Sports After Total Shoulder Arthroplasty

About this study

The purpose of this study is to determine the rate of return to sports involving the upper limb after shoulder arthroplasty, depending on the type of shoulder prosthesis.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • 18 years or older at the time of surgery

  • Diagnosis of cuff tear arthropathy, massive cuff tear, primary osteoarthritis and fracture/ Fracture sequelae

  • Total shoulder arthroplasty completed at Mayo Clinic by one of the following surgeons: Joaquin Sancez- Sotelo M.D., John Sperling, M.D., Marc Morrey, M.D., and Jonathan Barlow, M.D.,

  • Informed, willing, and able to sign the research consent and comply with the requirements of the study protocol

 

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Minors (under 18 years of age)

  • Revision total shoulder arthroplasty

  • Patients who are note able to comply with the study procedures

  • Active local or systemic infection

  • Nerve injuries

  • Active malignancy or surgical indication for oncologic reconstruction
