Clinical Trials

Inclusion Criteria:

• Adults (men and women) age 18 and older.

• Absence of esophageal symptoms including gastroesophageal reflux (GERDQ score <8) or dysphagia (BEDQ score of 0). Mild GER symptoms are physiologic and should not occur more than 2 days per week.

• Absence of known chronic pulmonary disease

• BMI between 18.5 and 30 kg/m²

Exclusion Criteria:

• Known esophageal motility disorder

• Chronic opioid use

• Prior surgery to the esophagus or stomach

• Known gastroparesis

• Connective tissue disease affecting the esophagus

• Poorly controlled diabetes (HbA1c > 7.5%)

• Current upper respiratory tract infection

• Significant sinus disease precluding passage of the HRM catheter

• Major concomitant illness

• History of heavy alcohol or tobacco use

• Poor comprehension and/or fluency of English language

• Inability or unwillingness of individual to give written informed consent
