A Study Of Neurobiological Of Persistent Pain In Difficult-to-Treat Rheumatoid Arthritis

About this study

The purpose of this study is to identify neurobiological phenotypes of persistent pain among patients with D2T-RA.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Ability to understand the study procedures and voluntarily provide written informed consent.

  • Males and females between age of 18 and 65 years at the time of enrollment.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Active psychiatric disease (i.e., severe depression, severe anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, or post-traumatic stress disorder)

  • Active substance use disorder (i.e., current diagnosis of alcohol or substance use disorder, including but not limited to cocaine, amphetamines or methamphetamine, heroin or prescription opioids, or other illicit substances)

  • Contraindications to MRI

    • Presence of non-removable MRI-incompatible implants/devices

    • Severe claustrophobia

    • Body weight >300 kg (weight restriction of the MRI scanner)

    • Patients with advanced cervical or thoracic kyphosis
