A Study Of Characterization Of Periprosthetic Joint Infection Tissues

About this study

The purpose of this study is to characterize and compare the local and systemic immune landscape in patients with PJI versus those with non-infected arthroplasty failure (NIAF) by performing high-dimensional immune profiling on synovial fluid, residual peri-implant tissue, and peripheral blood.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adults (≥18 years of age) undergoing revision of a total knee or hip arthroplasty at the Mayo Clinic – Rochester who can provide informed consent, and meet the clinical criteria for PJI (e.g., Musculoskeletal Infection Society criteria) or NIAF.

 

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Patients who are unable to provide informed consent, protected research populations, and patients under the age of 18 years old.
