A Study Of Phototherapy In Patients With Dementia To Improve BPSD

About this study

The primary aim is to assess the feasibility, acceptability and tolerability of a 5-day phototherapy protocol in adults with dementia exhibiting BPSD while admitted to the hospital. 

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adult patients admitted on the inpatient Domitilla 3D unit.

  • Documented diagnosis of dementia or suspected major neurocognitive disorder.

  • Presence of agitation/aggression symptoms

  • Have patient consent or have a LAR able to sign the consent on behalf of the patient.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Unable to tolerate the phototherapy.

  • Any clinical concerns about safety of continued phototherapy use.

  • Macular degeneration, blindness, photosensitivity, patients that do not have a family/guardian or LAR and/or are in the hospital involuntarily.
