Mni Sota Center For Climate Change And Health

Overview

About this study

The overarching goal of this study is to provide scientific evidence for climate risk to high vulnerability individuals and inform the development of mitigation and climate adaptation strategies. Our regional focus is the Upper Midwest, an area characterized by differential hot and cold weather, transient wildfire smoke from western North America, an extensive rural community, and large American Indian (AI) populations in both urban and rural areas.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Data from all patients included in the MNEHRC will be included.

The analysis will be performed at the health system and the quantitative estimates, uncertainties, and summary statistics will be shared with our UMN team. In a second stage, we will combine the health system specific effects using a meta-analysis approach to produce an overall estimate for the Minnesota population of interest. For the main assessment, this will be a total of 90 effect estimates representing the 9 health systems, American Indian and rural populations, and the three exposures of extreme heat, extreme cold, and wildfire smoke conditions. This method is necessary to guarantee the privacy and security of patient data that will remain with each health system without the UMN team ever accessing potentially sensitive EHR information.

Exclusions Criteria:

  • Research opt-outs

Note: Other protocol defined Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria may apply.

Eligibility last updated 10/31/2024. Questions regarding updates should be directed to the study team contact.
