A Study Of Accelerometry As An Objective Measurement Of Upper Extremity Function

About this study

The purpose of the proposed research is to establish the test-retest reliability of a novel objective measurement of upper extremity function.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

1.     Patients with a brachial plexus injury,

2.     Age range of 18 to 65 years,

3.     Willingness to participate in the study,

4.     No restriction will be placed on gender, race, or ethnicity,

5.     Able to understand and follow instructions.

 

Exclusion Criteria: 

1.     Patients with a brachial plexus injury and subsequent reconstructive surgery,

2.     Patients with substance misuse issues (e.g., smoking or other consumption of tobacco/cannabis, and alcohol dependency),

3.     Closed head injury with resultant inability to follow commands,

4.     Soft tissue or skeletal injuries which preclude use of the sensor,

5.     Neuropathic pain which prevents use of the sensor,

6.     Amputation of the upper extremity,

7.     Unwillingness or inability to comply with test procedures.
