A Study Of QOL For Adult CI Recipients And Their Communication Partners

About this study

The purpose of this study is to assess longitudinal changes in QOL in adult CI recipients and their primary communication partners and to identify individual- and dyad-level factors that contribute to or modify those changes.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adults (≥18 years of age)

  • CI candidate is scheduled for first-time cochlear implantation at Mayo Clinic Florida

  • Patient has post-lingual hearing loss

  • Patient and partner can complete questionnaires in English

  • Communication partner is identified by the CI candidate as their primary support person or frequent communication partner

 

Exclusion Criteria:

  • CI recipient or partner is under 18 years old

  • Patient has already received a cochlear implant

  • Cognitive, psychiatric, or language barriers that preclude valid survey completion.

  • Either participant unwilling or unable to complete follow-up at 12 months
