A Study To Evaluate Musculoskeletal Injury Risk In Female And Male Marines

About this study

The purpose of this study is to identify sex-specific risk factors for musculoskeletal injury in active-duty service members, to determine the effect of musculoskeletal injury on resiliency in female and male service members, and to explore field based physiologic and biomechanical data captured using remote monitoring technology to assess musculoskeletal injury risk and recovery.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria - Male or Female Marines Enlisted at School of Infantry (SOI) West Participating in Infantry Training Battalion or Marine Combat Training:

  • Male or female Marines, aged 18-45 years.
  • No injury to muscle or bone within the previous 3 months that limited military training activity.
  • No allergy to adhesive materials.
  • No concussion or mild head injury within the past year.
  • No history of neurological or balance disorders.
  • Currently cleared for full active duty participation by the Command Surgeon or designated medical personnel without limited duty.
  • Not currently pregnant.

Inclusion Criteria - Male and Female Service Members Who Receive Care from the Sports Medicine and Reconditioning Team (SMART):

  • Enlisted or officer male or female Marine.
  • Aged 18-45 years.
  • Sustained a recent musculoskeletal injury which required care by the SMART.
  • No concussion or head injury within the past year.
  • No history of neurological or balance disorders.
  • Not currently pregnant.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Under 18 or over 45 years of age.
