A Study Of Home Air Quality And Pulmonary Outcomes In Interstitial Lung Disease

About this study

The purpose of this study is to characterize baseline household indoor air quality—including particulate matter and volatile organic compounds—using home air quality monitors in patients with ILD and matched controls.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

ILD group:

  • Age ≥ 18 years

  • Established diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis per standardized diagnostic criteria

  • Followed in the Mayo Clinic Florida ILD Clinic

  • Able to provide informed consent

  • Resides in a home where a monitor can be placed for 24 hours

Control group:

  • Age ≥ 18 years

  • No known interstitial lung disease, with normal pulmonary function testing and chest imaging without evidence of interstitial lung disease

  • Able to provide informed consent

  • Resides in a home where a monitor can be placed for 24 hours

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Inability to provide informed consent

  • Plans to relocate or inability to complete follow-up testing within ~12 months

  • Home environment unsuitable for monitor placement

  • Active smoking
