A Study Of Upright Versus Supine Positioning For Radiotherapy

About this study

The purpose of this study is to compare patient-reported comfort, anxiety, and breathing ease between conventional supine positioning (experienced during standard clinical care) and upright positioning (experienced during non-irradiated mock sessions) using 0–10 visual analog scales and an overall preference item.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Age ≥18 years.

  • Scheduled to receive EBRT.

  • Able to sit upright for ~20–30 minutes.

  • Able to provide informed consent.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Orthopedic or neuromuscular instability preventing safe upright support.

  • Inability to tolerate upright position >10 minutes.

  • Device limitations (e.g., body habitus incompatible with upright system).

  • Pregnancy (not targeted for positioning workflow studies).
