A Study Of Drug Allergy Phenotypes, Endotypes, And Mechanisms

Overview

About this study

The purpose of the UDSAR Consortium is to identify patients with true drug allergies and to collect biological samples from participants to identify the mechanisms of drug allergies. In doing so, we will recruit and enroll participants across settings who may have a drug allergy and study procedures will differ for those with acute or historical reactions.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Provision of signed and dated informed consent form.

  • Age 12 years or older

  • Allergic reaction to any antibiotic (e.g., vancomycin, beta-lactam, quinolones, etc. but not anti-virals, anti-fungals and anti-parasitic drugs). We will consider immediate allergic reactions of pruritus, urticaria, erythema, angioedema, bronchospasm, wheezing, shortness of breath, hypotension, and anaphylaxis the focus of inpatient/emergency recruitment.

  • Willingness to adhere to the study intervention procedures.

Inclusion criteria for control patients include:

  • The participant must have been exposed at least one time to an antibiotic. One time exposure can include allergy clinic evaluation.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Any conditions that prohibit the patient’s ability to participate in study procedures (e.g., syncope with phlebotomy, a significant cognitive or psychiatric disorder that impairs history assessment).

Note: Other protocol defined Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria may apply.
