A Study Of Tracking Heart Failure Status Through Respiratory

Overview

About this study

The purpose of this study is to collect simple, non invasive data on heart failure patients and healthy subjects to develop, test and validate breathing algorithms and ultimately to train a machine learning algorithm to detect when decompensation may be starting to occur in the heart failure population.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

 Heart Failure Decompensated Patients:

  • Patient being admitted to one of the Cardiology services with the diagnosis of decompensated HF

  • Has been receiving treatment for <24 hours

 Heart Failure Stable Patients:

  • Patients with known heart failure diagnosis, stable Rx for at least 1 month, with either HFPEF or HFREF.

  • Similar age and gender mix as decompensated patients

Age and Gender matched healthy subjects:

  • No history of cardiac out pulmonary disease

  • Generally active

 Any age, healthy subjects:

  • No history of chronic cardiac or pulmonary disease

Exclusion Criteria:

For heart failure patients:

  • Physical limitations that preclude the use of a mouthpiece or mask. Inability to collect at least 10-15 minutes of respiratory data.

  • Severe pulmonary diseases, such as COPD or Pulmonary Fibrosis without a diagnosis of heart failure.

  • Complete dependence on supplemental oxygen or inability to come off oxygen for more than 10-15 minutes

 For healthy controls:

  • Inability to breathe on a mouthpiece or mask for less than 10-15 minutes.

  • Known history of cardiac of pulmonary related disease (e.g., valve dz, arrythmia, COPD, IPF, asthma)

  • Current smoker

Note: Other protocol defined Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria may apply.
