A Study Of Spinal Stimulation After Spinal Cord Injury

About this study

The purpose of this study is to determine responsiveness (present or absent) of spinal sensorimotor circuitry below the level of SCI via transcutaneous spinal cord stimulation (TSCS)-evoked motor evoked potentials (MEPs) in individuals with SCI below T10.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adult ages 22-70

  • Chronic SCI (traumatic or atraumatic) greater than one year post injury date

  • American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) Impairment Scale (AIS) A-D

  • SCI below thoracic 10 neurological level of injury

  • Able to follow verbal commands or instructions

 

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Severe autonomic dysfunction defined clinically

  • Active skin conditions preventing electrode placement

  • Positive pregnancy test

  • Any illness or condition which, based on the research team’s assessment, will compromise the patient’s ability to comply with the protocol, patient safety, or the validity of the data collected during this study.
