About this study

The purpose of this study is to validate the results of previous studies at the University of Pennsylvania and the Mayo Clinic, indicating that the EvoScoreDX algorithm can differentiate patients suffering from psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES) and epileptic seizures (ES) using identified proteins, demographic, and clinical data.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Aged 18 and over (there is no upper age limit for this study)
  • Subject Population:
    • Arm 1, Outpatient: Diagnosed with either ES or PNES during an EMU stay at the study site within 36 months of initial contact for potential study enrollment
    • Arm 2, Inpatient: Undergoing clinically indicated monitoring in the EMU as part of their routine, standard of care workup.
  • Able to provide Informed Consent.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Age 17 or under.
  • Clinical diagnosis of both ES and PNES (either due to an EMU admission or outpatient EEG); potential subjects with a history of any EEG that has shown epileptiform abnormalities are excluded from the ES cohort.
  • Unable to provide Informed Consent.
