Therapeutic Alliance in Physical Therapy Care

About this study

This study will address gaps in research by assessing change in therapeutic alliance over time specific to physical therapy care and will add to the body of research assessing the therapeutic alliance’s impact on patient outcomes.

 

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Musculoskeletal primary diagnosis (operative or non-operative)
  • English as primary written and spoken language.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Non-musculoskeletal primary diagnoses (i.e. vestibular disorders, brain injury, spinal cord injury, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiopulmonary diagnoses)
  • <2 physical therapy appointments.
  • Receiving care from other physical therapist outside of this clinic (i.e. Active PT or patient coming for pre/post-operative visits because their surgeon is located at Mayo Clinic).
  • Under 14 years of age.
  • Pregnant indiduals.
  • Prisoners.
  • Adults lacking capacity to consent.
