Neuromuscular Ultrasound Role Extension in the EMG Laboratory

About this study

The purpose of this study is to further develop normal values for nerve and muscle ultrasound in the Mayo EMG lab, to allow more widespread use of this non-invasive tool in the diagnostic work up of patients presenting to the EMG lab, and to validate those normal values in clinical practice.  

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Eighteen years of age or older.
  • Ability to provide informed consent.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Any abnormalities on nerve conduction studies in the limb that will be studied with ultrasound.
  • Personal history of diabetes mellitus.
  • Personal history of peripheral neuropathy or other neuromuscular disorders.
  • Objective sensory loss or muscle weakness in the limb to be studied with ultrasound.
