Music Therapy During Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP)

About this study

The purpose of this study is to explore the use of live music therapy from Mayo Clinic's board-certified music therapists and recorded maternal singing to alleviate stress in infants undergoing ROP examinations.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Infants who meet the requirements for ROP screening: infants weighing less than 15kg at birth or infants with a gestational age of 30 weeks or less at birth.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Infants with significantly impaired hearing
  • Infants less than 31 weeks of age (Note: ROP screening starts at 31 weeks of age at the earliest)
