Acute Respiratory Effects of Toxic Asphalt Emissions

About this study

The purpose of this study is to determine the acute influence of inhaling a cocktail of emissions from asphalt on lung physiology with and without a filter ( ASU novel adsorbent) and also to determine if this cocktail has cardiopulmonary effects, such as changes in heart and lung function and brain blood flow. 

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Healthy adults between the ages of 18-50 years.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Those with a history of pulmonary, cardiovascular, metabolic disease, neural/cognitive disorders, or are pregnant, if they currently smoke or have had a significant history of smoking (>5 pack yrs.)
