A Study of Sleep Health, Sleep Disorders, and Cognitive Functioning After Heart Transplantation

About this study

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships among sleep health characteristics, sleep disorders, and cognitive functioning after heart transplantation, which will critically inform the development of precision sleep health interventions to promote optimal cognitive functioning for this complex population.

 

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adults (aged ≥18 years) who received their heart transplant at least 5 months prior to the start of recruitment activities will be included. 
  • Participants need a smartphone in order to download the WatchPAT application and complete the home sleep apnea data collection.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Persons who are pregnant or breastfeeding, work nights or rotating shifts, do not read or write in English, are blind or have a documented medical history of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or dementia will be excluded.
  • Persons with neurological conditions affecting the non-dominant hand (e.g., Parkinson’s disease).
