Postoperative Bowel Function after Watch and Wait

About this study

The purpose of this study is to comprehensively document postoperative bowel dysfunction in patients managed with a “watch and wait” strategy, and associated health-related quality of life. It additionally aims to determine the correlation between patient symptom profile and functional assessment.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adult patients
  • Locally advanced rectal cancer treated with a “watch and wait” strategy following either NAT or TNT at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Patients with a history of:
    • Previous rectal or colonic surgery
  • Patients lost to follow-up
  • Patients treated with a non-curative intent
