Gynecological Surgery Innovations

Advances in gynecological care from the Mayo Clinic Surgery Research Center's Innovation Accelerator improve patients' surgical experiences by making gynecological surgery less invasive. Innovations also help surgeons and surgical assistants avoid the fatigue they may experience while performing surgery, allowing them to provide better care.

    Weighted quadrilateral retractor

Mr. Harshman, a surgical assistant at Mayo Clinic, created an innovative way to use weights to retract, hold back or grasp tissue. His weighted quadrilateral retractor improves visibility for surgeons and provides better access to tissue. Additionally, it reduces surgical assistant fatigue during surgery.

The system includes weights that can be readily attached and detached from the retractor, allowing for efficient, effective procedures with minimal tissue damage.
