Mayo Clinic's campus in Jacksonville, Florida, is home to a Center for Advanced Research supported by the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA). The center is directed by Dennis Dickson, M.D., and Pamela McLean, Ph.D., who work with a comprehensive team of experts.

APDA Centers for Advanced Research must meet the highest academic standards and be distinguished leaders in the field of PD research. There are eight such centers across the country. The funding of this center supports a large research program, which includes:

  • Basic research laboratories studying disease pathogenesis
  • Clinical studies of PD and related movement disorders
  • Genetic studies of PD and related movement disorders
  • Brain banking and neuropathological studies
  • Biofluid biobanking (plasma and CSF) from PD patients and controls

These activities are supported by established and internationally recognized researchers and movement disorder clinicians, as well as junior scientists, postdoctoral trainees, graduate students, and visiting scientists.

The Mayo Clinic Jacksonville APDA Center for Advanced Research synergizes with the existing Mayo Clinic APDA Information & Referral Center.
