Engaging Hispanic and Latinx Populations

The Center for Health Equity and Community Engagement Research is developing engagement strategies specifically focused on Hispanic and Latinx populations. (The center uses the term "Latinx" because it is gender neutral.) One such strategy is the Health Outreach Program en Espanol (HOPE) para la Comunidad initiative underway in Jacksonville, Florida.

HOPE para la Comunidad

HOPE para la Comunidad is an initiative aimed at providing health education, outreach and information about research opportunities to Hispanic and Latinx communities. The initiative focuses on increasing awareness and addressing chronic diseases and conditions that disproportionately affect Hispanic and Latinx communities.

Through partnerships with faith-based and community organizations, the Center for Health Equity and Community Engagement Research has organized a series of health education events that focus on recognition of stroke symptoms, diabetes risk, nutrition, Alzheimer's disease and other chronic illnesses.
