The Center for Health Equity and Community Engagement Research is developing engagement strategies specifically focused on black and African American populations. Strategies include wellness education and outreach and a partnership with churches to improve cardiovascular health.
Wellness Rx initiative
Wellness Rx is a community-driven initiative in which Mayo Clinic collaborates with community organizations to provide wellness education and outreach to underserved areas of Jacksonville, Florida. The initiative is focused on educating community members about wellness, empowering them to develop healthier habits and encouraging them to reach personal goals.

Fostering African American Improvement in Total Health (FAITH) program
The FAITH program is an interventional program that partners with African American church congregations in Rochester, Minnesota. Developed by LaPrincess C. Brewer, M.D., M.P.H., the 16-week multicomponent program provides health education delivered by Mayo Clinic staff and physical exams before and after the program. The goal is to help participants increase heart-healthy habits and adopt heart-healthy behaviors.
