'An Introduction to Health Care Systems Engineering' (502E00CMA130038)
This module introduces systems engineering methods and their emerging applications to health care delivery research. Application of systems engineering principles, with appropriately designed experiments, can be used to improve the value of health care delivery.
Presenter: Jeanne M. Huddleston, M.D.
'The Promise of Epigenomics in Medical Research and Future Practice' (502E00CMA130040)
Epigenomics is the study of all the changes in gene function that occur without a change in the sequence of the DNA, known as epigenetic changes. Upon completion of this module, learners will be able to define and explain the history of epigenetics and epigenomics. They will identify how these mechanisms underlie the regulation of gene expression. They will be able to describe how DNA modification occurs; for example, the role of chromatin dynamics.
Participants will be able to explain how epigenetics and epigenomics contribute to inheritance and human diseases. They will also be able to discuss the use of epigenetics and epigenomics in diagnostics and therapeutics.
Presenter: Raul A. Urrutia, M.D.
'An Introduction to Biomedical Informatics' (502E00CMA130084)
Upon completion of this module, learners will be able to define biomedical informatics, compare different areas of research and development in informatics, and identify key problems motivating the field of biomedical informatics.
Presenter: Jyotishman Pathak, Ph.D.
'Qualitative Research Methods' (502E00CMA130039)
This module provides a broad overview of qualitative research methods. Special emphasis is placed on rigorous qualitative research design, appropriate use of various methods (ethnography, grounded theory, phenomenology and discourse analysis), data collection tools and data analysis strategies.
Presenter: Ashok Kumbamu, Ph.D.
