Scholars in the Postdoctoral Certificate Program complete all coursework through Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Course registration opens approximately one month before the start of the quarter, and students register for courses through Self-Service Banner.
Up to 50 percent of the necessary credits from Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences can be taken prior to program admission. If more than 50 percent of the credits have been taken before enrollment in the certificate program, they may not count toward program completion.

Scholars who apply to the certificate program in March begin coursework in the summer quarter. Those who apply in September are expected to begin coursework in the winter quarter. The following required courses are offered in both the summer and winter quarters and serve as prerequisites for many other Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences courses:
- CTSC 5300: Fundamentals of Clinical Epidemiology
- CTSC 5600: Statistics in Clinical and Translational Research
