Career Enhancement Program
The Career Enhancement Program in the Mayo Clinic Hepatobiliary SPORE attracts and develops the most promising investigators for hepatobiliary cancer translational research. The program targets both junior faculty and early mid-career faculty at Mayo Clinic who have not previously engaged in hepatobiliary cancer research.
The specific aims of the Career Enhancement Program are to:
- Identify the most promising program candidates by constructing effective processes for outreach, recruitment and identification
- Emphasize the recruitment of qualified women and minorities and people with disabilities
- Conduct a thorough selection process for all program applicants
- Effectively mentor, monitor and evaluate program awardees by developing a continuous process for supporting their success, with a goal of ensuring a consistent architecture of oversight capable of meeting each investigator's needs
- Facilitate extramural funding for and integration of awardees into future Hepatobiliary SPORE projects
The Career Enhancement Program provides one annual award of up to $100,000. Program awardees are expected to use these funds to develop independent research programs and acquire independent funding in hepatobiliary cancer research.
Program awardees are mentored by both senior hepatobiliary cancer researchers and highly productive investigators in other areas of cancer research at Mayo Clinic, with close oversight from leadership within the Hepatobiliary SPORE.
