Participation

Participation in the Mayo Clinic Celebration of Research is by invitation from the event coordinators.

The Celebration of Research is a unique open house that introduces students to the discoveries and processes of biomedical research at a world-class academic medical center.

We start the day with a keynote address by one of Mayo Clinic’s top researchers. We then engage students through hands-on activities in a research setting. An overwhelming majority of science teachers, students, and Mayo Clinic staff who have participated in previous years have rated the program to be an excellent experience providing a unique behind-the-scenes look into biomedical research and laboratory science careers.

The event is open to high school students in grades 9-12. Our goal is to inspire research interest. While we understand it may be easiest to nominate seniors with advanced science achievements and secure college plans, we urge teachers to consider bringing students for whom the experience may be most impactful and transformative. This may mean younger students who have not yet developed college plans, or students who have enjoyed fewer enrichment opportunities.

Biomedical research and laboratory science cover many different aspects including biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics and this day will be engaging for a variety of students.

Those participating need to sign and return the media release form.
